The ERA: How Long Must American Women Wait For Equality?

It has been 97 years since Suffragist Alice Paul first drafted the Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, beginning the long and still unsuccessful fight for equal protection under the law for American women. Even today, the USA is the ONLY modern democracy, among peer countries, that does not explicitly include protection against sex based discrimination in its Constitution. With more women, including women of color, elected to state and federal office, the ERA is once again gaining momentum.
